Ergo Baby Carrier Organic Black M125

My husband says I have a brown thumb. While there is evidence to back him up,http://www.uergobabycarrier.com/ I beg to differ. I’m a baby wearing, water birth having, outdoor exploring, Earth loving vegan (quite possibly born in the wrong decade considering my 70-something year old neighbor and I share fashion- and most likely music- taste). Ergo CarrierGardening should come naturally to me, right?

Well, not so much. I dream of living on a self-sustaining commune where we only eat what we can grow, frolic in the fields all day and have women like Ina May delivering our babies, but this is not currently my reality. I live in the city. Ergo Baby Carrier AustraliaSpace is limited (as is time). Not to mention, Florida is HOT and my attempts at gardening in the past have been nothing short of plant massacres.  Add a baby to the mix and my gardening dreams were pretty much just that- dreams.http://www.uergobabycarrier.com/

However, we have had some of the nicest weather lately (read: under 85 degrees), so I decided to go for the gold (well, green) while the husband was at work (to prove him wrong about my thumbs, of course). I packed my 6 month old up in our trusty Organic Ergo and we headed out to start our own little urban gardening adventure!

First we hit the market and loaded up our stroller with Organic/Non GMO plants and seeds. http://www.uergobabycarrier.com/ergobaby-original-c-4.htmlA small piece of advice for any babywearing mamas with jogging strollers: they make for the PERFECT shopping cart when you can’t have the real thing. This also makes for quite the show for the general public.

After we decided what to plant, we headed to Home Depot for some supplies. Apparently babywearing with flats filled with soil and 4x4s is pretty rare in those parts because we had nearly everyone laughing….until I told them I drive a Prius and my son’s carseat is practically a Lazy Boy.

At that point, it was more a cause for concern. How could one crazy lady – baby in tow – fit a load of 8’ 4x4s and 10 huge bags of soil in a Prius?http://www.uergobabycarrier.com/ergobaby-organic-c-2.html I’ll tell you the same thing I told them: Tetris. I know it sounds crazy, but I bring mad Tetris skills to the table (err…checkout line), folks. Whether it’s packing a car or bagging groceries, the game of shapes has taught me to do the impossible….kind of like the Ergo. You can’t hold a hands-free mama down!

Once we got home, and unloaded the hundreds of pounds of gardening supplies,http://www.uergobabycarrier.com/ergobaby-petunia-c-3.html I decided “today is the day I give the back carry a go.” Don’t get me wrong…the back carry is probably one of my new favorite things, but despite the photos, I haven’t mastered it yet on my own. Yes, it’s much cooler (temperature wise AND awesome level) and gives me a lot more room to move around, but I look like a fish out of water trying to get a living being in there. Ergobaby PetuniaWe sat on the bed, then laid on the bed. Then the couch. The floor. At one point I even did some crazy Hunch Back of Notre Dame arch in the mirror and some things that are most likely yoga moves. Eventually I got him in there safely, right before resulting to an over the shoulder toss (over a bed, of course!). Thank GOD I was alone.

While the day was quite the adventure, we now have 2 adorable little 8‘x4’ garden beds filled with 3 types of tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, green beans, pumpkin, cantaloupe, watermelon, blackberries, sunflowers, rosemary and basil. In less than a week we’ve got everything sprouting up out of the dirt and I’m addicted! My son and I now have now added gardening chores to our morning ritual and I’m already planning out the next 2 beds! Who has a brown thumb now? Ehh…let’s not call it too soon…but if you’ve been leaving your gardening dreams in the dust, rethink them. If we can do it, so can you!

Anyone have any “gardening with a baby” tips or funny stories? How about mastering the back carry? We’d love to hear them! Leave them in the comments below for all the baby wearing mamas to see!
